How to Make the Perfect Mother's Day

All that I am or ever hope to be, I owe to my angel mother - Abraham Lincoln

Mother’s Day is fast approaching and we’re here to help you give your mother, grandmother, and mother-in-law the perfect day. It’s our opinion that every day is Mother’s Day, so feel free to use this guide to put a smile on Mom’s face on a rainy Monday in August. Sure you can do the typical flowers and a card, but this year why not kick it up a notch. Always take things to the next level. In the words of Leonardo da Vinci, “vai grande o vai a casa.” Translation: go big or go home.

Step One - Breakfast

If you’re home for the weekend or still live close by your Mom, make sure to shop for her favorite breakfast foods the night before and cook her a delicious breakfast to start her day off right. How many times did she make you breakfast while you slept in to squeak out an extra 9 minutes of sleep before school? That’s what we thought. Your turn to step up to the plate and knock one out of the park.

So maybe you can’t make it home to celebrate, but you can still team up with your father, a sibling, or a friend to make the perfect breakfast and a perfect start to the day.

Step Two – The Card

Two suggestions here; either a simple card with a beautiful image or a funny card that is sure to make her laugh. It’s all about your written message inside the card so spend some time and sincerity on your message.

Step Three – Gift Ideas

We’re not saying that flowers aren’t a good gift. After all, it’s the thought that counts; however, flowers are not a lasting gift. They’ll stay around for a week and then end up on the curb. An easy upgrade from the flowers is a nice plant. Plants last and add a very nice touch to a room in the house. Check out these other fun gift ideas if you want to get out of the vegetation category entirely.

  1. Photo album from Shutterfly
  2. Gift baskets with everything from wine to cheesecake
  3. Jewelry, because every woman loves jewelry
  4. A pampered day at the spa
  5. House cleaning service to take the chores off her hands for a hot second
Step Four – Activities

Giving is better than receiving, and giving memories is better than giving gifts. Plan some fun activities for the day. Go to the farmer’s market or find a nice restaurant for lunch. Go for a hike or offer to help in the garden. Go to a wine tasting or host one with Mom and some friends at the house. Regardless of what you decide to do, make sure you’re together and sharing laughs.

If you can’t be together on Mother’s Day, make sure you chat on the phone for a while and plan some activities for the next time you see each other.

That’s your recipe for the perfect Mother’s Day. Give lots of hugs, have fun, and take pictures to add to next year’s photo album.
