You’ve probably heard the term before: Renaissance Man. But what does it really mean and how does it relate to our lives today? We’re here to enlighten you. Yes, that pun was intended.

The history and idea of the Renaissance man dates back to the great thinkers of the 14th - 17th centuries. Two notable figures, Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo, epitomized the idea of the Renaissance man and are still spoken about for their achievements today. The term has been passed down through the years and the torch has been passed along. As society, technology, and our collective knowledge changes, so too does the profile of the Renaissance man. The core values remain the same, but the lifestyle and focus has changed.

Being a modern day Renaissance man doesn’t mean you have to be an accomplished poet or master sculptor. Rather, it means being as open to the world as possible and embracing all opportunities as they come your way. It means keeping your mind sharp and your body in good shape, for the mind needs a healthy body to achieve its full potential. It means learning as much as you possibly can. It means traveling and seeing the world, experiencing its people, and learning its language. It means not being afraid to be who you are and feel comfortable in your own skin.

These guidelines and experiences, when paired with social settings, will make you the star of the show. No need to be cocky about it, because your persona will exude confidence. Imagine the modern Renaissance man as the one who can do it all and make it seem effortless. Now go take the bull by the horns, and conquer your world.

With the progression of society taking an uphill turn from the “frat bros” and “keg stand champions” of the 90’s and early 2000’s, we find ourselves entering an era of refinement which has been lost for some length of time. Technological advancement, societal development and cultural evolution, all being intertwined, have brought us to a place where the Modern Renaissance Man is to be the individual who truly makes a difference. In business, in society, in whichever facet of life you so choose to engage yourself, the Modern Renaissance man will find himself surrounded by Gentleman, Rogues and all others in between. To remember that who you are is reflected not only by your words, but even more so by your actions is of the utmost importance.

Be the best version of you that you can be. Never give up on your ideas, your dreams, your visions or yourself.
